Rachel Gaudio
My name is Rachael Gaudio, and I am going to be a senior at URI this year. I am from Old Lyme, Connecticut, home of the famous Lyme Disease! I am double majoring in Biological Sciences and Wildlife & Conservation Biology, and hope to be going to law school next year to study Environmental Law. Besides Newman Club and Liturgy, I am involved with Sigma Alpha Sorority- the professional Agriculture sorority on campus. I am Second Vice President of the Sorority, as well as Rush Chair. These positions require me to do a lot of public speaking, which has strengthened my skills in this area. I have also served as a Student Senator for the URI Student Senate.
I started my work at the URI Catholic Center as a freshman. I helped with Liturgy and also basically lived in the Catholic Center- really. If they had beds it would have been awesome. It was here that I made many true friends, and felt most at home. The URI Catholic Center has not only provided me with a safe place to relax and study, but has also allowed me to deepen my faith- sharing it and talking about it with my peers.
The best thing to do is get involved with Newman. Besides meeting new people, you will have the opportunity to volunteer your time to worthy causes, explore your faith, and make new friends. Now, for the pull for liturgy- you are not limited to reading at mass! You can also serve as a Eucharistic Minister (EM), allowing you to volunteer at mass without public speaking, if that is not your thing. However, what better way is there to face your fears of public speaking? In an environment surrounded by your peers, there is no judgement. So, sign up today!
