Cassie Mullins
I'd like to start off by saying that most people, if not everyone, calls me Cassie. Now that that's cleared up, I'll start off by telling you how I learned about Newman Club. during my URI 101 class, I'd found out it was a requirement to join a club on campus. I was kind of bummed out about that because I was already so busy with classes and work, but I knew I had to start looking for something. At the time, I wasn't really in touch with my Catholic faith and was looking to go to daily mass a few times to see if I wanted to get back into it. After the mass, Father Matt pulled me aside and asked me about my interests, classes, and of course my faith. When I explained I was interested in coming back to church, he told me about Newman Club. Since I needed to join a club anyways, and I wanted to meet other Catholics, I decided to give it a try. Needless to say I fell in love with the values and people and I've been dedicated to the club ever since! I ended up choosing to go through R.C.I.A. and it has been one of the best changes I've ever made to my life. I am truly grateful to Newman club for helping this to happen, which is why I have chosen to take the communications position so that I can give back to the group! Now I'll tell you a few random things about myself...
I am entering my sophomore year in Fall 2009. I am a Biological Sciences major for Pre-Med. In addition to Newman club, I volunteer at Women and Infants Hospital and I work at Gregg's Restaurant in Warwick. I also love cooking and baking, and when I have time I love sewing and crafting. I guess this is part of the reason why my favorite part of Newman is eating! The first reason that is my favorite part is because everyone gets to try a dish that someone put their time, energy, and heart into. The second reason is that when we have dinner together, everyone forgets about their issues and just gets to spend quality time together. This is probably why Newman club stayed part of my life... because the members get a chance to become friends and even a sort of on campus family. That factor has always been the most meaningful part of Newman Club to me.
