Mustard Seed Communities Nicaragua
Every January during winter break we serve as missionaries at 2 orphanages in Nicaragua cared for by Mustard Seed Communities, an Catholic non profit organization that cares for abandoned, handicapped, disabled, and vulnerable children throughout the world. This trip is open to any student on campus with an open mind and heart, willing to experience the grace of God in the human experience and to recognize in the people of Nicaragua with whom we work and pray, the face of Christ. Applications for the trip are offered at the Catholic Center the second week of classes in September.
The chosen student missionaries then meet weekly for the next three months for prayer, support, cultural preparation, and fundraising. The trip normally last a little more than a week. We work together with both the orphanage communities in Managua and Diriamba on a particular work project throughout the week. We have dug the foundation for a children's cottage on the property, built the exterior perimeter wall and even built a water cistern for storage throughout the dry season over the course of our three missionary journeys, helping to provide a home for the children. The most important experience of the mission is our interaction with the 40 beautiful children who make Mustard Seed their home. It is a humbling experience to witness God work in and through the dynamic interaction of the student missionaries and the Mustard Seed children, all living, working, singing, playing and praying together. It is the presence and reality of the kingdom of God in our midst!
We welcome you to follow the link to our media page to see our video and pictures from our previous 3 missionary journeys.
